Step-by-Step Sunderkand Path Ritual Process
Purification: The puja space is cleaned and the image of Lord Hanuman is installed. Fresh flowers, particularly marigold, red hibiscus, and jasmine, are offered.
Sankalp: The Pandit takes the formal Sankalp in the host family's name and declares the specific intention.
Ganapati Puja: Lord Ganesha is invoked for an obstacle-free recitation.
Hanuman Invocation: Lord Hanuman is formally invoked with the Hanuman Chalisa and the Hanuman Ashtakam. A specific visualization of Hanuman in his flight over the ocean is guided by the Pandit.
Complete Sunderkand Recitation: The Pandits begin the Sunderkand, all 60 Chopais (verses) of this chapter of the Ramcharitmanas. In the musical (sangeet) format, each verse is sung to devotional tunes, creating a profoundly moving and joyful atmosphere. The standard Sundar Kand takes approximately 2.5–3 hours to complete.
Hanuman Chalisa and Bajrang Baan: After the Sundar Kand, the Hanuman Chalisa is recited 11 times. For situations involving enemies or black magic, the Bajrang Baan, Hanuman's most powerful protection mantra, is also recited.
Hanuman Aarti: The famous 'Aarti Kije Hanuman Lala Ki' is performed with great devotion.
Prasad: Traditional Sunderkand Prasad, Boondi, Besan Ladoo, and fruits, is distributed.
