Vehicle Puja (Car/Bike)
The moment you bring home a new car or bike in Pune, there is a particular stillness in the air before the first key turn. In Hindu tradition, that moment belongs to the divine. A vehicle is not merely a machine of steel and fuel. It carries you through every commute, every long drive to your parents' village, every late-night hospital emergency, every joyful pilgrimage. The Vedic tradition recognizes this and prescribes the Vahana Puja, a sacred ceremony to invoke divine protection upon the vehicle and its passengers before the first journey begins.
Families across Baner, Wakad, Hadapsar, and Kharadi perform this ceremony every Dhanteras, Dussehra, or on the day of a new vehicle purchase. It takes barely an hour, costs almost nothing in comparison, and carries the spiritual conviction that when you place your vehicle under divine care, journeys become safer.

The Vedic Significance of Vahana Puja
In ancient India, warriors performed puja of their horses and chariots before battle. Farmers performed puja of their bullock carts before harvest season. The Vedic view is clear: any vehicle that supports human life and movement deserves acknowledgment and sacred protection.
The Vehicle Puja invokes primarily Lord Ganesha (for obstacle removal), Lord Vishwakarma (the divine engineer and protector of all tools and machines), and sometimes Lord Hanuman (for protection on the road, especially for long-distance drivers). In Maharashtra, many families also offer prayer to the local Gramdevata or Kuladevi before the vehicle's first journey.
The puja removes the Nazar (evil eye) from the vehicle, consecrates it with positive vibrations, and formally places it under divine protection. There is a practical psychological benefit too: a family that has performed Vahana Puja drives with greater care and reverence, treating the vehicle as a responsibility rather than a toy.
